Long Description:
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a small, non-enveloped, double-stranded DNA virus that belongs to the papillomavirus family. There are more than 100 types of HPV, a common STI that can cause both genital warts and cancers of the cervix, anus, vagina, penis and throat. The various types of HPV can each present differently, causing asymptomatic or persistent infection that is more likely to cause cancer. There is currently no cure for HPV infection, however effective vaccines exist to help prevent infection by the most common cancer-causing types of HPV.
